Ms. Nagel serves as a "navigator" for families, agencies and professionals seeking support and guidance with autism related inquiries. Ms. Nagel is overseeing the development of the Resource Centre (opening January 2010) and manages an educational autism newsletter free to participants and available on the Sinneave Family Foundation website. Ms. Nagel is also working with a number of Alberta researchers on autism related studies, is Co-Chair of the Sinneave Family Advisory Network, and is providing leadership in the development of adolescent and adult programming needs.
Ms. Nagel holds a master’s degree in social work from the collaborative program at the University of New York in Brockport and Nazareth College. Prior to moving to Calgary in 2007 she was a senior health project coordinator for families and children participating in Autism research projects at the University of Rochester, New York Medical Center. Ms. Nagel conducted parent evaluations (ADI, KSADS and Vineland) within the Autism STAART Center (Studies to Advance Autism Research and Treatment), NIH Grant and for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention Grant entitled Behavior and Medical Characteristics of Children with Down Syndrome. Additional roles included information and referral consultant for families, schools and professionals, program coordinator for parent training workshops and co-facilitator of parent support groups. She has two sons, one a young adult with Asperger Syndrome.
