Workshop: Managing Challenging Behaviours
Please join us for a free workshop that will explore proactive and practical strategies to deal with a variety of challenging behaviours often associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Discussions regarding the management of maladaptive behaviours within a variety of environments (e.g., school, home, work and community) and contexts will be included.
Speakers:
Jennifer Herman graduated from Mount Royal College in 1993 with a diploma in Early Childhood Education and Development. She spent several years managing both YWCA and YMCA Childcare facilities before deciding to pursue a different avenue still connected to children and their families. Jennifer started at STA in May of 2004 and has been a behavioural consultant since 2006. She enjoys learning as much as she can in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders through conferences, workshops and e-learning. Jennifer has presented to a variety of individuals including professionals and families.
Joanne Welcher attended University of Calgary, majoring in Psychology. She finished her schooling in Ontario and graduated from the Social Work program at Sir Sandford Fleming. Joanne began working at Society for Treatment of Autism in 1994. She has held a variety positions including Residential Behaviour Therapist, Program Supervisor, Early Intervention Therapist and now Behavioural Consultant, a position that she has held for over six years. In her position, Joanne is responsible for behavioural programming and assessment of children ranging in age from two to seventeen years. This includes the development and implementation of individual service plans and behaviour plans; staff and parent training; and teacher and aide support. Joanne has been involved in a variety of professional training opportunities, and has presented to parents, teachers and professionals within Calgary and surrounding areas.
